Rickey Smiley lives up to his name, drawing smiles, smirks and out-and-out laughs from growing audiences across the country. A star of the stand-up circuit, Smiley was the host of BET’s Comic View for two seasons before seeing his own DVD special, 2011’s Open Casket Sharp, debut at No. 1 on iTunes. Already host of a nationally syndicated radio show (The Rickey Smiley Morning Show), Smiley went on to star in a sitcom based on his own life (The Rickey Smiley Show), netting both big ratings and critical praise. Smiley’s large stable of characters, featured in both his act and his famous prank phone calls, feature ordinary folks made extraordinarily funny, like “Mrs. Bernice Jenkins,” the stuffy church lady, or “Buford,” a lovable redneck. Now Smiley — along with Mrs. Jenkins, Buford and many others — headlines the Baltimore Comedy Factory.
